Mid Argyll rugby players are putting their fitness and determination to even more use throughout January in aid of two very good causes.
Their energies off the pitch this month will be raising money to help fight motor neuron disease and prostate cancer.
Mid Argyll RFC member, and Argyll and Bute women and girls’ community coach, Drew Buckley said: “Club members decided to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer in January alongside doing the Doddie Aid Challenge.
“We decided to take on the Run the Month Prostate Cancer Fundraiser, where we need to run a total of 26.2 miles (a marathon) across the month. Between us we have so far raised £280 and have run a total of 56.6 miles.”
Prostate Cancer UK’s Run the Month challenge takes place throughout January and raises money to help save men’s lives.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “Prostate cancer affects one in eight men in the UK.
“An early diagnosis can save lives, and by taking part in Run the Month: Marathon Edition, you could help men get an earlier diagnosis by sharing our risk checker and funding research into better, more effective tests.”
Mid Argyll Rugby Club members are also currently taking part in Doddie Aid, a virtual mass-participation exercise event which raises funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation in memory of Scotland and British and Irish Lions legend Doddie Weir OBE.
The charity invests in research to find meaningful treatments for motor neuron disease and, one day, a cure.
Drew added: “If you would like to donate, you can visit the Mid Argyll RFC Facebook page where the links to our Just Giving Pages have been posted.”
