Lochgilphead Bowling Club’s Jim Young Memorial Shield had a special winner on Saturday as Marie Young took home ‘her Jim’s’ trophy.
The victory, secured after defeating Duncan Litster in the final, was made even sweeter for the champion when she was presented the shield by the couple’s son, Kevin.
In a day of quality competition, Marie was certainly the standout player. She took the final by nine shots to one, meaning that across the day’s play she had won an incredible 39 shots, while dropping only seven, leaving her with a total of +32.
Four of those dropped shots were in her opening match, which she claimed 5-4, before victories of 10-0, 6-1, and 9-1 meant she finished top of her group to progress to the final.
Duncan’s top spot in the second section was a tighter affair, claimed after a one end shoot-out against Colin MacInnes after they had tied for first on +12.
However, he could not keep up with Marie in the final.
A total of 10 players competed in the shield, now in its second year, with two groups of five playing matches across five ends.
Haggis, neeps and tatties, as well as shortbread, pancakes, and tea and coffee helped to keep up the players’ energy.
The organisers want to congratulate Marie on her victory, and thank all who helped the day run smoothly.
