A Taynuilt teenage motorcycle trials star will ride for the renowned Sherco team in 2024.
Euan Sim, 15, has signed up to ride the 125 ST-Factory Sherco motorcycle for what is scheduled to be a milestone season for him - with the twice British Youth Trials Champion expected to graduate to making his debut at the FIM Trial World Championship this summer.
The championship is making stops in Japan, Andorra, Italy, Germany, Belgium, France and Spain this year, leading the Oban High School S4 student to apply for his first passport.
French motorcycle manufacturer Sherco already has a stable of established and decorated riders including former world champion Adam Raga, French elite champion Benoit Bincaz and nine-times women’s trial world champion Emma Bristow, who received an MBE last year.
Its UK wing is supported by Ms Bristow and her husband James Fry, a rider with Sherco for 17 years.
Such experience is set to directly tutor Euan, who honed his craft at Lochaber Trials Club, as he takes his next step.
Speaking of Euan’s signing with the team, Ms Bristow said: "Supporting the next generation of young riders is part of my role now and one that I am passionate about. I am looking forward to helping Euan; he is a talented rider and highly driven to work hard.
"I’m proud he has decided to join our team and can’t wait to pass on some of my experience, especially when it comes to the world championship.
"It’s going to work out well as his debut at TrialGP is in Andorra and the women don’t ride there so I can focus on supporting our young riders Euan Sim and Harry Turner."
Euan is due to make his first competitive appearance with Sherco at the SACU Scottish Trials Championship on April 7 and expressed excitement at the year ahead.
The young rider said: "I’m buzzing for the season to get started.
"I couldn’t believe how good the 125 Sherco was when I tried it – perfect for my style. I thank Off Road Moto for arranging the bike test and for its support this year, especially at the British Youth rounds.
"I’d also like to thank Beta and Highland Leisure Sport for their help in getting me to this point. I will never forget this. The chance to go to the world championship with Sherco UK and have the support of Emma and James is unbelievable.
"We’ve had a couple of practice sessions together and it’s been so fun. I’ve done things I didn’t think were even possible, so thanks to them. I can’t wait to get started."
