The Oban Ravens squash team are gearing up to host their third annual bingo fundraiser and community members are in with the chance of winning fantastic prizes.
On Friday February 28, the ladies squash team will be hosting a night of fun at The Argyllshire Gathering Halls and one lucky bingo player will scoop a £200 top cash prize.
Doors will open at 7pm for eyes down at 7:30pm and as well as bingo, there will also be a tombola, raffle, whisky coin roll, and wheel of fortune.
Money raised will be split between the squash team, Diabetes UK and the Macmillan Day Bed Unit at Lorn and Islands Hospital.
The fundraiser has been organised by Oban Raven Laura Mackay and teammate Carrie Craik, who have personal reasons for getting involved.
Laura said: “Both our sons have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and that is what triggered us to raise some money with the team.
“Someone is diagnosed with diabetes in the UK every two minutes and it is important to promote the cause and raise awareness.”
Laura added: “One of the other mums on the team is a Macmillan nurse and obviously most of us have been affected by cancer in one way or another, whether that is family or someone else we know, and so we wanted to give back to the town.”
Last year the Ravens had a full house at the bingo night, sold out of raffle tickets, and raised over £4000. This year they are hoping to match or beat last year’s fundraising total.
Some of the raffle prizes up for grabs include weekend camping tickets for Tiree Music Festival, afternoon tea at Dungallan Country House, a meal for two at Cuan Mor, and other vouchers kindly donated by local businesses.
Raffle tickets can be purchased at Oban Filling Station on Soroba Road or from one of the Ravens.
Laura said: "In the run up to the fundraiser the Ravens have all got stuck in and helped.
“It’s nice to be involved in a local team, but to also utilise that and fundraise for a good cause."
On the morning of Friday February 28, the Ravens are also running a bake sale from 10am to noon at the Bank of Scotland.
