While Storm Eowyn put paid to the Mid Argyll’s men’s game on Saturday, with travel to Mull impossible, the girls’ under-14 and under-16s teams were able to play on Sunday, January 26.
The U14 girls hosted Campbeltown Rugby Club for another Lift Off event at the Ropework. Only 10 girls were available but they made the most of the game time, challenging themselves by adding the rule that they could only score from a kick.
This introduced tactical kicking and put the opposition under a new type of pressure.
Coach Drew Buckley said: "There was some brilliant skills on display by everyone, and a special well done to Belle and Eliza for winning Players of the Match.
"Thank you to everyone who helped make the day successful!"
Meanwhile, Argyll and Bute U16 girls played their first game in the West Development Cup, hosting a Mid-Glasgow team made up from Cartha Queens Park RFC, Hillhead Jordanhill RFC, Hamilton RFC, Whitecraigs RFC, Lenzie RFC, West Of Scotland RFC and Allan Glens RFC.
It was a strong contest on poor pitch and in bad weather, but it was a valuable opportunity for the girls to get used to playing together. They will be looking to continue to build as a team next week in their next game, which is being played in Oban.
Coach Drew Buckley said after the match: "Well done to our try scorers today, Annie and Erin, and to Ruby who converted both.
"Post match we chose Freya as Player of the Match for our opposition, while Mid-Glasgow chose Annie for us.
"Very well deserved after a strong performance in both attack and defence from Annie, especially standing out when she broke the line to score her try!
"A big thank you to Mid-Glasgow for travelling to us and to the parents, coaches and referee, Allan, for making this happen!"
